FOUNDATION

This term has seen the return to face to face teaching for all of Sirius College, Shepparton students. What joy it has brought to the faces of the students. It has been exciting yet emotional for both staff and students alike to see this return to ‘normal’ teaching.

Book Week

Week 3 of Term 4 has seen the students love of learning and books shine through.

On Monday, the Foundation students took part in Book Week Dress Up’s which saw Frozen Elise’s, superheros, sports heros, pirates and more.

Across the school, we saw Book Week activities being enjoyed by all. Our class celebrated with fun and laughter at the book of ‘Pirates Love Underpants’ by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort.

Hussein says ‘The golden underpants were treasure’.

Zuhair says ‘The pirates were in the ship thinking about getting the golden underpants’.

Ali 1 says ‘The pirates wanted to find the golden underpants. The good pirates couldn’t get the golden underpants’.

Mohammad and Gufran said ‘The pirates stole the Golden Underpants when the bad pirates were sleeping’.

Marium 2 said ‘The book was funny because it was about underpants. When the pirates went looking for the golden underpants while the other pirates were sleeping, they cut the other pirates’ underpants so that they could steal the golden underpants’.

Mahveen was full of uncontrollable laughter when asked about the book.

Celebrating the End of Term 3

The end of Term 3 (during remote learning) saw the Foundation students dressing up. Their topic was about Dressing Up in your favourite clothes. In culmination of the Integrated Studies unit on “Materials – What is it made of?” Some students wore favourite colours, others dressed up as characters. My favourites on the day, were Imaan and Amir dressing up in cultural wear. They both wore clothes that had belonged to their grandparents. How special Imaan and Amir!

Father’s Day

Another highlight to Term 3 was the celebration of Father’s Day in September. Students were taught about similes and created lovely poems about their fathers. I was blown away by their creativity. Goooo Foundation!!!

Can you guess who said what?

My Father is…

As strong as a rock.

As tall as a tree.

As powerful as Batman.

Food Art

Remote learning gave students the opportunity to explore art in different ways with materials from around the home. One of my best lessons was seeing students be creative with food. They were to create a piece of art using their snack. Can you guess who created what food art?

Integrated Studies - Science

Science this term is exploring ‘Staying Alive’. Our inquiry learning is about what makes plants stay alive. The students have created Grass Heads.

We have learnt that for grass to grow we need:

Soil, air, sun, and water.

Students are caring for the grassheads by watering them everyday.

Only time will tell if our characters will grow hair (grass!).

Maths

Speaking of Time, this term the students have been learning about telling the time as part of their Maths lessons. How to read o’clock on an analogue clock and associating time with events and times of the day e.g. At 9:00 a.m., I am starting school. At 8:00 p.m., I am going to bed. Please support this learning by talking with your child at home about what activities or tasks they do and at what time.

Homework

A reminder, the students are expected to keep up their daily reading.

Every Friday, the reading diaries are collected and checked for parents’ signatures. Your child will receive certificates for every 25 nights of reading that they do at home.

Assigned Reading Eggs and Mathletics tasks are still to be completed every week. They are set on Monday and go through to the Sunday.

Instead of a homework booklet, an additional Maths task will be assigned on MyEdOnline every week for completion.

Foundation Graduation

Please save the date for the upcoming students’ Foundation Graduation. This year it will be held on Friday 27th November. More information will follow in the coming weeks.
